On June 22, members of the Vancouver Coast office team headed to Whistler Olympic Park to take on Tough Mudder, one of the world’s toughest obstacle courses. The event was part of an extreme team building event with Coast people and their broker partners, which tested both physical and mental limits.

Tough Mudder events are hardcore 10-12 mile obstacle courses designed by British Special Forces to test your all around strength, stamina, mental grit, and camaraderie. With the most innovative courses, 1,000,000 inspiring participants worldwide to date, and more than $5 million raised for the Wounded Warrior Project, Tough Mudder is the premier adventure challenge series in the world.

The team (comprised of nine Coast people from Vancouver and Halifax, three brokers from Aon and Marsh and an underwriter from GenRe) trained extremely hard, and everyone finished the course, which took about 3.75 hours to complete. This was no small feat for a course that features harrowing obstacles with names like Arctic Enema, Boa Constrictor and Electro Shock Therapy.

In addition to the physical challenge of scaling Whistler’s massive ski hills, participants get shocked with 10,000 volts of electricity and are submerged several metres into icy water, testing both mental and physical endurance. The experience brings forth an amazing team spirit, where people help not only their teammates, but also perfect strangers, to get through the course by offering a lending hand to get over obstacle walls.

To complete the Tough Mudder is an outstanding achievement, and the whole team deserves incredible kudos for all the hard work they put into training for and completing the course.

Congratulations and well done!
