Coast Underwriters, a Canadian Managing General Agent (MGA) specializing in marine insurance for over 70 years, joined Intact through the RSA acquisition. Between Coast and the Intact marine team, we have the expertise and platform to be the largest specialized and dedicated market of marine insurance in Canada. That’s why today, we are pleased to bring these two teams together under the Coast brand.
Joining up the teams brings the best of our resources, operations and talents together to grow the business. Customers and brokers will benefit from the additional depth of expertise in marine underwriting and dedicated claims service available across the country. Together, we’ll reinforce our commitment to offering the best combined marine products currently available in market and taking on the complex and changing risks marine customers face.
The hallmark of specialty insurance is the ability to deliver solutions tailored to meet the unique needs of specific industry segments, products or customer groups through deep underwriting, pricing, risk control and claims management expertise. MGAs, such as Coast, provide dedicated insurance solutions and services and are an important distribution channel for our specialty lines business.
Coast will continue to be led by Kevan Gielty who has been President and CEO for 20 years. Kevan was central to building Coast over the years into the successful MGA it is today with the largest marine portfolio in Canada. Kevan has spent all of his career in P&C, and primarily in marine insurance. He holds a FCIP designation and is a former president of the Marine Insurance Association of British Columbia and a former chairman of the International Union of Marine Insurance Cargo Committee.
Bringing the teams together comes at a very exciting time. Among the objectives on Intact’s ten-year strategic roadmap is to build a specialty solutions leader. This is an example of how we can bring our strengths together, draw on each other’s capabilities, expertise and relationships to set us apart in the market.
We have all the ingredients to develop a global specialty platform, the roadmap and, most importantly, the team to achieve what we set out.
